About my Blog

I'm finishing up this chapter of my life called College. Pretty soon I'll be graduating and hopefully soon after that I'll be employed. You know that period between graduation and trying to get a job? I call it intermission. And I want to make sure mine is a short as possible. This blog is a place where I vent, keep you all updated on my job hunt, tell a bit about myself, share accomplishments and failures, (ok maybe not failures), discuss trends in communication and anything else that I feel is worth writing about. Feel free to browse and leave comments. I love conversation.

I got a job!

Finally! I am so excited!

Let me start by saying that before graduation, I'd already had one interview lined up here in Atlanta. Then on graduation day I had set up another interview. So before I left Miami, I had two interviews to do this past week.

Well, I interviewed with a real estate company on Tuesday. This company owns rental properties from West Virginia down to Florida over to Arkansas and Louisiana and all in between. The position is an internship in their marketing department. I interviewed with the two ladies who currently work in the marketing department and they were so super nice!

The interview went really well although I can say I wasn't completely prepared! Since I'd just arrived from Florida, I didn't have copies of my resume or writing samples! So I asked if they wouldn't mind if I shared my work digitally. :) They agreed. Then the next day, when I sent my thank you, I attached samples of my work.

At the end of the interview, the ladies said they were really impressed! I was really excited to learn more about the company too! I feel like there are so many ideas waiting to come to life for this company! There are so many ways it could use marketing and communications strategies to its advantage! (I expressed that in my thank you letter as well.)

Another thing I like about this job is that I get to travel! Already, I am being sent to Washington, D.C. to do some work on one of their properties.

Additionally, I know I will learn more than just communications skills at this job. One of the girls I am going to be working with, she started off as a leasing consultant, then worked as an auditor, and now she is doing marketing. Not only will I be able to practice communication, I will also learn some of the real estate business. Cool. :)

I could get a license. I don't mind. Like I said in a previous post, my career could go anywhere from here. It won't be limited to my communications degree. I have too much talent for that.

Anyway, I am so so so thankful to be granted with this opportunity and I can't wait to start! =D I'm just waiting on IT to set up my cubicle and computer. How nice! My first cubicle! I'm going to decorate it with lots of pictures and color! =D

Lol. I'm on a high right now! I'm at the top of the rollercoaster hoping not to fall down soon. It's been a journey. Happy then sad, happy then sad. But I firmly believe that if a job turned you down, it is because there is something better out there for you. Something that would fit you even better than the job you thought you wanted. I am so happy that I have found my new home. :)

Good luck to all of you who are still searching!

It seems every time I log in, someone else has landed a job.

I don't tweet as often either.

My new life begins :)

Hi! I'm in Atlanta now! Drove in with the family last night. I have $100 to my name and I'm ready to begin the adventure. Sounds crazy right? I know but I don't exactly come from a wealthy family so I do with what I have and I still feel blessed. I could have nothing. I'm currently rooming with a friend and going to check out some (super cheap) sublets this week. This is part of the reason I moved back to Atlanta! I know I can find cheap places to stay! Haha.

But boy oh boy, I look forward to the day when I'm wealthy and successful and I can look back and say I remember the day I moved to Atlanta with only $100 to my name. I'll be inspiration to someone someday.

I have two interviews coming up this week and I'm so super excited. :) No, I haven't landed a job with one of the "top" companies but everyone takes a different route to success. Regardless of where I work or what I do, I know that I will be successful and I will STILL rise to the top.

And I won't limit myself to this communications degree. I am blessed to be a woman of many, many talents so there's no tellin' which route I may take! :)

I'm excited about life guys! Graduates, you should be just as excited. Opportunities are many.

Atlanta it is.

Hi there!

I graduate on Friday! How exciting is that?! I'm very excited to see my mom and brothers and my doggie!!! So I'm moving to Atlanta. I told my mom to just drop me off there on her way back to Memphis. I haven't landed a pr job yet but I am confident that I will find something in Atlanta. There are definitely more opportunities in Atlanta than Memphis.

I am ready to be independent! I have to find work to pay the bills! That is my motivation!

Even though I haven't landed a job, I am still excited about the future! It's so full of opportunity! And I have so many interests and talents, there's no tellin' what career path I'll take! I know that I'm not just limited to pr! I like to think of myself as the Jasmine of all trades! :) I'm good at many things! Whatever you need, I can provide the service! Haha.

I'm moving to Atlantaon Saturday and hopefully I'll be working by Monday. Seriously. I don't care what I'm doing. I just need to be bringing in some dough!

See you at the top!

(jeopardy wait music)

...Okay, sooo... maybe I need to get out of my comfort zone. Atlanta and Chicago are not working out. I'm not getting the response I need. I haven't been applying in bigger or smaller cities, not New York or Los Angeles but also not Columbus or Charlotte.

So now I'm applying in random cities... even one in Michigan... Hm.

Sometimes I think that God has something planned for me that is way bigger than what I have planned for myself. Well, God, I'm waiting on the big reveal!...

rejection letters

I didn't think employers actually took the time to tell you you didn't make the cut. I have received two of those letters already.

Well, I'm glad you let me know. Better to know than to sit out here wandering.

I can't afford NY anyway.
